Swaledale and Arkengarthdale are the most northerly dales in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Swaledale was described by the great Alfred Wainwright as his 'favourite dale'.
The Dale is famous for its scenery with its stone walls, field barns, moorland, many footpaths for river and low and high level walking and its wild-life.
Its ancient villages have historic buildings, many places to stay, eat and be entertained.
It is the home of the nationally renowned Swaledale Festival and last July hosted stage one of the Tour de France cycle race.
Mobile ‘phones
The only network available is EE, now with G4. I’m told Vodaphone is planning a G3 network to open Autumn 2018.
Many pubs and hotels do allow wi-fi connections if you ask for the password.
Other networks may give a connection if you are on the moor tops or near Richmond or Leyburn.
Generally network connections are poor in the Dales - don’t rely on them.
